James was the first of the guys to get locked in. He came in and just -- he came
in with his bleached blond hair, and auditioned. And Kim [Quinn] was like, 'Oh
my god, he is not right.' I said, 'No, no, he's perfect. You've got to get past
the blond hair thing. He's a vampire.' So we had to see him like three times.
But every time he would do the scene in the truck. You know the scene in the
truck, where he's driving out to his parents', and he's talking about moving out
there. Every time he did that scene, I said, 'That's exactly who this guy is.
That's who he is.' So he had such a deep understanding of the part, and of these
people, that he just... he was it."
